Before I got home I got a check engine light and a “service DEF system see dealer speed will be reduced to 5mph in 125 miles” message. All my local dealers are a month or more out on diesel service. It seems everyone is having issues with new Ram diesels. To turn the light off, you are supposed to add a minimum of 2 gallons of DEF fluid. Then, it may take a couple of restart cycles to fully clear the light and have it shut off. When the light stays on, it is also possible that the DEF pump module has failed or a NOx sensor failed on you.Either will trigger a "permanent" Def limp mode that won't override. The only way out of that one is to flash the ECM. I figured that out over about an hour at a gas station in middle of nowhere NM.
